Waste

This category groups the fermentable fraction of household, urban and industrial waste, as well as animal manure.

The plant waste discarded by private individuals and communities represents between 80 and 200 kg per year and per capita.

Organic waste accounts for 64% of the production of refuse produced by our industrialized society. Organic food waste accounts for 30% of the traditional dustbin, i.e. 120 kg per year per capita. The estimate of the production of waste resulting from biomass reveals a substantial arising of biomass essentially made up of organic waste resulting from agricultural and food activities. In France, food industries produce approximately 43 million tons of waste (blood, marc, pastes, greases, leathers, vegetables and fruits…) per year. There is also an arising of biomass made up of organic waste from the paper, textile and chemical industries. In France, the sewage sludge produced by waste treatment works represents 850,000 tons of dry matter per year.
